Husky tours come with different sled dog breeds

There are several sled dog breeds: the Siberian Husky, the Alaskan Malamute, the Greenland Dog and the Samoyed. Most husky tours use Alaskan Huskies. This is not a sled dog breed but an umbrella term for a mixed-breed dog descended from several breeds. These dogs have lost the look and the behavioural traits of the traditional sled dog breeds.

The most original and wildest sled dog breeds, Alaskan Malamutes and Greenland Dogs, are the breeds that most closely resemble the wolf in behaviour and nature. They are the original sled dogs of the Inuit of the Arctic regions, and more than a hundred years ago they were used to conquer the North and South Poles.

Today, most dog sled tours use Alaskan Huskies. Alaskan Husky is the umbrella term for a mixed-breed dog descended from several breeds. They are smaller and more lightly built, their coat is not as thick and they have lost much of their resemblance to the wolf. Hunting dogs have usually been bred in to make the dogs faster and easier to handle. Alaskan Malamutes and Greenland Dogs, on the other hand, are the original: the locomotives of the North, the off-roaders among sled dogs.
